GREATER THAN MYSELF
Have you ever been in love really IN LOVE? Like totally consumed by your feelings for the person with whom you have become besotted?
Do you, can you remember?
Wasn’t it great how you felt about yourself?
And why?
Wasn’t it because you were filled with your feelings for HER or for HIM?
All of a sudden, YOU were not what mattered most. No, it was HER or HIM who mattered most.
Didn’t it seem that you just felt better about yourself?
If and when we should go through the above scenario, many of us are not aware of what really has happened to us.
We have simply surrendered ourselves to another who in our eyes is greater.
And if we are totally honest, for this to have happened, we have surrendered that part of ourselves that has kept us from being the best version of ourselves.
Who will not join me in acknowledging that my greatest obstacle in becoming the best version of myself is ME?
It is for this reason that most of us have no clue as to what the best version of ourselves looks like and feels like.
To yield, to surrender? To borrow a true Southern gentleman’s words: Sorry, Sir, but we do not take kindly to those words.
Most of us don’t. To surrender is to lose, to give up. No matter where a person is from, it is not in our nature as human beings.
But what, just what if it were to lead to you and me becoming the absolute best versions of ourselves, to being greater than ourselves?
To whom or to what should we be willing to surrender? Good question.
We live in a time when TRUTH has lost its value.
In his iconic book THE DIVINE CONSPIRACY, which was about the fulfillment of the promise of the Kingdom of God on the Earth, Author Dallas Willard gave us these words about TRUTH:
mus Truth is a gift God instilled into creation so that we can properly engage reality.
It is a tragedy that truth, as it has come to be known today, is often considered enigmatic, unrecognizable, or even relative.
Unbelief in truth encourages both hopelessness and arrogance. Neither can be endured for long when engaging the most important things in our lives.
To live the life I was created to live I must become greater than myself and that will not be possible if I choose to surrender to an inferior god.
The only way I can do that is to surrender myself to THE TRUTH, THE ONE TRUE GOD.
Jesus said:
I am the way, the TRUTH and the LIFE. (John 14:6)
OH! REALLY?
YES!
