THE BROKEN SOUL

In the creation story we have in the book of Genesis, we are told that God created man in His own image.

That we are told it was two separate acts of creation must be significant.

There was a physical creation (And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the earth) and a spiritual creation (and He breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and man became a living soul).

Man was complete. He had a perfect body and a perfect spirit or soul.

Man’s body was to be the home of God’s soul. So the body and the soul were God’s.

But man was given a choice…to own his own body, or to continue to belong to God. He chose the former.

When man disobeyed God, God’s dwelling place in man was corrupted. Man’s disobedience broke God’s soul and He was no longer able to dwell in man. (We are told by the prophet Habakuk in chapter 1, verse 13:)

You are of purer eyes than to behold evil, and cannot look on wickedness.

Our souls are sacred. They are God’s habitation in each one of us.

Many ask why it is important to read the Old Testament. One of the most important reasons is to learn just how much God loves us and the extent to which It is clearly the desire of His heart to again dwell in our souls.

Just one example are the words below which He gave to Jeremiah.

Behold, I will gather them out of all countries where I have driven them and I will bring them back to this place, and I will cause them to dwell safely.

They shall be My people, and I will be their God; then I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear Me forever, for the good of them and their children after them.

And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from doing them good;

Yes, I will rejoice over them to do them good, and I will bless them with all My heart and with all My soul.

But in keeping with the nature of God’s Holiness, the only way that is possible is for our sinful nature to be purged, cleansed, and purified by the blood of His Son, so that in and through His Son, He can return and live in us as He did in the Garden before the fall. (Galatians 2:20)

My soul is not MY soul, it is God’s soul and He wants to possess it as He once did

in the Garden.

OH! REALLY? Yes…He does.
